How to Set Up Gold IPTV on Apple TV

Apple TV is the smoothest device we support. The interface is quick, the apps are stable, and because everything comes from the App Store there is nothing to sideload. Setup takes about five minutes.

What works on Apple TV

You need an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K — the black box that runs tvOS. The older silver Apple TV (3rd generation and earlier) has no App Store and cannot run IPTV players at all.

The players available on tvOS are Smarters Player Lite, IPTV Smarters Pro and iMPlayer. All three work with Gold IPTV. Smarters Player Lite is free and the one we suggest starting with.

Step 1 — Install the player

1. On your Apple TV, open the App Store
2. Search for Smarters Player Lite
3. Install it, then open it

Typing with the Apple TV remote is slow. Two shortcuts: use the Apple TV Remote in your iPhone’s Control Centre to type with the phone keyboard, or wait for the iPhone notification that appears when a tvOS text field opens and type from there.

Step 2 — Add your Gold IPTV account

When the app opens it asks how you want to log in. Choose the Xtream Codes API option — not the M3U option — because it brings the TV guide and on-demand library across as well, which the M3U method does not.

Enter the three details from your activation email:

• Any name for the profile
• Username and password — case sensitive, copy them exactly
• Server URL, including the port number if there is one

Press add, and the app loads your channels, films and series into three separate tabs.

Step 3 — Settings worth changing

• Match content and frame rate — turn this on in the Apple TV’s own Video and Audio settings. It makes live sport noticeably smoother.
• Auto-play next episode — turn it off if you use the series library and dislike being pulled into the next episode automatically.
• Favourites — mark the channels you watch. The default list is enormous.

Common Apple TV problems

“Cannot connect to server” — nine times out of ten the server URL is missing its port number, or has an extra space at the end from pasting.

Channels play but the guide is empty — you logged in with M3U instead of Xtream Codes. Delete the profile and add it again using the Xtream option.

Picture stutters on 4K channels — check that your Apple TV is on 4K and not upscaling, and if you are on Wi-Fi, try ethernet. Apple TV 4K has a gigabit port on the higher model.
